Stephin Merritt Wins Obie Award for "Coraline"

Stephin Merritt, photo by Marcelo KrasilcicStephin Merritt was awarded a Village Voice Obie Award this week for the music and lyrics for his 2009 theatrical adaptation of Neil Gaiman's children's novel "Coraline." The annual Obie Awards, started in 1955, recognizes achievements in Off Broadway and downtown theater.

Additionally, "Coraline" actor and book writer David Greenspan was awarded a Sustained Achievement Award, acknowledging his work in "Coraline" along with an impressive number of other shows.

Stephin Merritt's original cast album recording for "Coraline" is available through the Sh-K-Boom Records website and iTunes (iTunes USA Preview).
