Watch Claudia and Stephin rotate on a lazy Susan while Darrell Thorne and Stormy Leather transform themselves with lipstick and pomade. Stephin Merritt to appear at Tibetan Freedom Concert, and Barnes & Noble Upstairs at the Square

Stephin Merritt will appear at two special events coming up--the 22nd Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall, and Upstairs at the Square, Barnes and Noble's event series at their flagship Union Square store in New York City.

The 22nd Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert will be on February 13th at Carnegie Hall. Philip Glass will be joined by Stephin Merritt, James Blake, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Antony, Rahzel, Dechen Shak-Dahsay with other artists to be announced soon! Upstairs at the Square is a series which pairs musicians and writers for an evening of music and words. Stephin will appear with the brilliant Emma Straub. Many fans of The Magnetic Fields will recognize her smiling face from the merch booth. Stephin will sing some songs, Emma will read from her short story collection, Other People We Married, and they will both be interviewed live on stage by Katherine Lanpher. The event is on Thursday, March 8th, at 7pm at Barnes & Noble Union Square. It is free and open to the public.

We're pleased to announce the first single off Love at the Bottom of the Sea, "Andrew in Drag." Listen to the track below. The single will also be released as a 7", backed with the bonus track, "When Next in Love I Fall". The 7" is now available for pre-order from Merge Records and limited to 1000 copies. The 7" will ship on January 31st.

MAGNETIC FIELDS LOVE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA OUT MARCH 6

The Magnetic Fields will be releasing a new album, Love at the Bottom of the Sea, on March 6, 2012, on Merge Records in North America, and Domino Records overseas. The band's tenth full-length album is their first release of new material with Merge since 1999's highly acclaimed 69 Love Songs. The band will celebrate their new album with tours through North America and Europe. Please visit the calendar for full ticket purchasing information.

After putting out their "synth-free trilogy," The Magnetic Fields are returning to their signature mix of synth and acoustic sounds. Merritt notes about the new album that "instead of using a synthesizer as a melodic instrument, much of the time I used it as a compositional destructive mechanism, something eating away at the apparent order of my perfectionist arrangements. I was very happy to be using synthesizers in ways that I had not done before. Most of the synthesizers on the record didn't exist when we were last using synthesizers."

The songs - none over three minutes long - were recorded with Merritt's usual cast of collaborators: Claudia Gonson, Sam Davol, John Woo, Shirley Simms, Johny Blood and Daniel Handler.

There will be a limited-edition eggshell-colored vinyl available exclusively to those who pre-order the album at the Merge Records Store. The first 100 people who order the album from Merge will receive a free signed poster and a Magnetic Fields button.

"Holiday" Re-issue Out on Vinyl

"Holiday," originally released in 1994 by Feel Good All Over and subsequently reissued on CD by Merge in 1999, has been issued again by Merge, this time as a first-ever vinyl pressing. "Obscurities" Released Today

"Obscurities," a collection of Stephin Merritt's hard-to-find recordings dating back to his time on Merge Records (1994-99) and prior, is released today, August 23. Find the new release at your local reseller or purchase it directly from the Merge Records Store, which offers free shipping on all US orders. The $17.98 vinyl edition includes a download coupon redeemable for all tracks as 320kbps MP3s.

"Obscurities," a collection of new and hard-to-find recordings made by Stephin Merritt, will be released as a CD, LP, and digital download on Merge Records on August 23. The CD's 14 tracks include five Merge-era recordings from The Magnetic Fields.

"Forever and a Day," a previously unreleased selection from "The Song From Venus," Merritt's collaboration with author Daniel Handler, aka Lemony Snickett, is available today as a free download from Merge Records.

"Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields" by filmmakers Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara is available to watch on demand in the US through April 7 on providers Time Warner, Comcast, Verizon, Cox, Xbox, and Charter. The film will soon be released on the iTunes store. Watch it in the UK on iTunes, Lovefilm, and Sony Playstation, with Coolroom and MUBI coming soon.

"Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields" in Theaters

The feature documentary "Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields" starts its theatrical run on Wednesday, October 27 at New York City's Film Forum. Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields will be appearing in person alongside the filmmakers at the 8:10PM shows on Wednesday, October 27 and Friday, October 29. Tickets go on sale October 20 at the Film Forum website.

Tickets are also on sale now for the Los Angeles screenings, which start November 5 at Laemmle's Sunset 5. Stephin and the filmmakers will be making guest appearances at the Friday and Saturday evening shows.

Coinciding with the New York City premiere of "Strange Powers" is "All Our Friends are in New York," an exhibition of the band's history, featuring memorabilia and photographs by filmmaker Gail O'Hara, writer Emma Straub, and the band's own John Woo, among others. Other Music will host the exhibition as well as an opening reception -- with Stephin Merritt assuming DJ duties -- on Thursday, October 28 from 5 to 7:00PM at 15 East 4th Street.
